ITU Bureaux Directors elected today by Plenipotentiary Conference

 

On a first and final round of elections François Rancy of France and Brahima Sanou of Burkina Faso were re-elected today as Directors of the Radiocommunication Bureau and Telecommunication Development Bureau, respectively, for a second 4-year term. They received 166 votes from 166 countries present.

 

Brahima Sanou has been Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) since January 2011, following his election at the Plenipotentiary Conference in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2010.

 

François Rancy is the Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, holding that post since 1 January 2011. Until then, he was Director-General of France’s Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR).

 

ITU welcomed new Director of its Telecommunication Standardization Bureau as Mr Chaesub Lee of Republic of Korea won  with 87 votes from 169 countries present and voting.

 

Mr. Chaesub Lee started his professional life in 1986 at Korea Telecom. He is now working at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and as a senior advisor to the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP). He is Chairman of ITU–T Study Group 13, a position he has held since 2009.
