Visit of the Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union to Bulgaria

At the invitation of Dr. Veselin Bozhkov – Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), on 2 October 2014 in Sofia a meeting was held between CRC’s representatives and Mr. Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The meeting is an expression of the excellent relations, the active collaboration and the constructive dialogue between CRC and ITU – the largest international organization in the field of telecommunications, having a statute of a United Nations specialized agency.

The visit of Mr. Houlin Zhao is on the eve of the forthcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference to be held from 20 October to 7 November 2014 in Busan, the Republic of Korea. It is expected Mr. Zhao to be elected as the ITU Secretary-General for the next 4-year term. During the Conference the Bulgaria’s nomination for ITU C-region Council member will be voted as well. Since 1990 till the present, our country is successfully contributing in the ITU global policy making process as a member of the ITU Council for six consecutive terms. Bulgaria’s election for a seventh term will enable our continued collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by the dynamic technological and market developments in telecommunications and information society. Beyond doubt, re-electing Bulgaria as a member of the ITU Council will also strengthen the high prestige of our country and will consolidate its leading position among the countries in the region.
