Bulgaria took participation in the World Summit on the Information Society

 

 


 

 

The Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission (CRС) Mr. Veselin Bozhkov, PhD, took participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+10), which was held during the period 9-12 June in Geneva.

 

The World Summit on the Information Society was held under the aegis of the United Nations and coordinated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The main participants in the Forum were: the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Summit was organized in an extended format WSIS+10, with the aim to review comprehensively the results from the 10-year WSIS activity, as well as to adopt two key documents, reflecting the implementation of WSIS decisions and the vision of the High Level Event WSIS +10 for the future development beyond 2015.

 

On the personal invitation by the Secretary-General of ITU Dr Hamadoun Touré the CRC Chairman Mr. Veselin Bozhkov, PhD, gave an official statement before the High Level Forum in the form of a political declaration, stressing Bulgaria’s contribution for achieving the WSIS goals in the past 10-year period. Furthermore the CRC commitment was highlighted towards Bulgaria’s high level political engagements, in whose execution the National Regulatory Authority participates within its competence.

 

More than 1600 participants were present at the event, including about 100 ministers and heads of international organizations, representatives of the business, science and the civil society, to whom a platform was given within the High Level Segment to express their views about the achievements, challenges and the recommendations concerning the implementation of the WSIS Action Plan, the new trends and the questions of strategic importance for the development of the ICT sector.
