The Chairman of the CRC Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. took part in the discussion of the European regulators and Vice Chairman of the EC, Mrs. Neelie Kroes for boosting broadband connectivity in Europe

An extraordinary plenary meeting of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) was held on 15 November 2012 in Brussels at which the Commissioner Neelie Kroes presented her vision for incentivising private sector investment in NGA.

The Vice President of the EC Mrs. Kroes and the European Regulators agreed on the importance of increasing current levels of infrastructure investment. As well as providing the necessary conditions for future employment and business growth within individual Member States, the widespread availability of high-speed broadband will be a key enabler of the digital internal market, bringing together Europe’s economies as well as its citizens.

Commissioner Kroes outlined several Commission initiatives in this area, including recently announced plans for legislation aimed at reducing the civil engineering costs of high-speed broadband roll-out. The meeting focused primarily on the Commission’s planned recommendation aimed at harmonising costing methodologies and the implementation of non-discrimination obligations across Europe which is expected to be adopted in December this year.

The Communications Regulation Commission, represented by Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. took part in the discussions using the informal exchange of opinions as a possibility to place a series of questions in order to obtain more information about the policy of the other regulators in the area. The CRC Chairman expressed his satisfaction from the meeting held stressing that the dialogue between the BEREC Members gives an opportunity to exchange experience on all issues in the area of electronic communications. “This is the way the best practices come in Bulgaria and this is actually the purpose of the Communications Regulation Commission” – he said.
