A delegation from the Communications Regulation Commission took part in the 40-th jubilee edition of the ITU Telecom World

 

A CRC’s delegation, led by the Chairman, Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. attended the world’s most prestigious event in the area of the information technologies and communications – ITU Telecom World 2011. The Forum was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and was held in the Palexpo International Exhibition Center in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

This year’s event gathered over 330 world leaders, including Heads of State, Ministers, ambassadors, heads of regulatory authorities from all over the world, as well as representatives from the largest telecommunications companies.

 

The main topics discussed during the Forum have been the problems in the broadband technologies era and the opportunities for their solving, as well as the challenges in financing the infrastructure in the poorer and more isolated regions, cybersecurity of personal data, intellectual property rights etc.

 

An exhibition was also held during the event, which presented the latest developments in the ICT sector: broadband and IP services, mobile and wireless technologies, NGN.

 

During the Forum the Bulgarian delegation, led by the CRC’s Chairman, Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. was accepted by the ITU Secretary-General –Dr. Hamadoun Touré and the Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau – François Rancy. At the meetings a high estimation for the work of the Bulgarian regulator was given, and a number of questions on the future cooperation between the member-states of the International Telecommunication Union were discussed.

 

The ITU is a specialized world organization of the United Nations in the area of the telecommunications. It was founded in 1865 and Bulgaria is its member for 130 years now.
