The Chairman of the CRC Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. attended the opening of BEREC Office in Riga

 

On the 14-th of October 2011 a delegation led by the Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission, Veselin Bozhkov, Ph.D. attended the Office official opening ceremony of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) in Riga.

 

The Latvian President – Andris Bērziņš, the Latvian Prime Minister – Valdis Dombrovskis, the Vice President of the European Commission and Digital Agenda Commissioner – Neelie Kroes, the BEREC Chair for 2011 – Chris Fonteijn, as well as representatives of all European Regulators in the area of electronic communications took participation in the event.

 

The BEREC main role is to support the development of the single telecommunications market in the Community and to ensure consistent implementation of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications in all member-states. Its activity is supported administratively and expertly by the new-found Office, in which 28 people from all member-states will work.

 

The Bulgarian Regulator participates actively in the BEREC work, both at expert level in the frames of the working groups, and at heads level in the plenary meetings. The CRC and the national regulatory authorities of the other EU member-states use this platform to exchange information and best practices on regulatory issues in the area of electronic communications and to discuss the challenges which the telecommunication sector is facing, such as the revised regulatory framework, NGN, the convergence of networks and services, coordination of measures and adequate monitoring, international roaming, regulatory accounting etc.
