The Bulgarian customers of telecommunications services already use the expanded scope of the service “common telephone directory”. This became effective after BTC and the alternative fixed and mobile operators agreed upon the conditions and the procedure for providing and using the data bases for their customers.

The directory is electronic and contains information both for the subscribers of BTC and for the subscribers of other operators.

The collection, processing and submission of data, necessary for the issuing of telephone directories and provision of telephone enquiry services is done in accordance with the requirements of the LEC and the Law for protection of personal data. Each subscriber, who wishes to submit his data for the directory, should inform explicitly his operator for this. According to the contracts, the operators are obliged to submit the data of the subscribers, who have expressed their consent for inclusion in the electronic directory of BTC.

The directory is maintained by BTC and BTC obliged to provide it, since it is designated as an undertaking with significant market power of fixed telephone services.

The process was finalized with the participation of CRC, who controls the observance of the legislative provisions and the obligations for the operators proceeding from them. Execution its powers, the regulator assisted and traced the process till the real provision of the telephone directory and the telephone enquiry services.

 

In order to guarantee the customer’s interest CRC intends to use its powers and to study the intentions of the rest undertakings to participate in the procedure for awarding the provision of the universal service including the provision of a common telephone directory.

Up to then the maintenance of the enquiry services and the directory is an obligation of BTC.
