Twinning Light Project BG2005/IB/TE01/UE/TwL has started

The General Director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies at the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade in Spain, Mr. Bernardo Lorenzo took part in the official seminar on “Digital Terrestrial Television” in Bulgaria. The forum is a part of the project “Assistance in the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television”, executed by the Bulgarian regulator and the Spanish Ministry.

During the discussions Mr. Lorenzo and the Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission Dr. Veselin Bozhkov were unanimous on the point that the smooth migration to digital terrestrial television might be guaranteed only by the regular effective dialogue and exchange of views between the parties concerned. This is confirmed by the experience of the Spanish Ministry. At the moment in Spain over 80% of the population have the opportunity to receive digital television. During the last 2 years the households have bought 8 mln. Set-Top Boxes (STB) or integrated TV sets for receiving DTT. The General Director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies Mr. Bernardo Lorenzo stated that the analogue broadcasting in their country will be completely switched off on 3-rd of April 2010. Till that time he believes that 100% Digital TV coverage of the population on the territory of Spain will be achieved.

In some project missions representatives from the State Agency for IT and Communications and the Council for Electronic Media will take active part, following the invitation of CRC Chairman.
