New frequency bands for development of 5G networks discussed by the World Radiocommunication conference

The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) started its work on 28 October 2019 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. CRC is part of the official delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria, approved by a Decision of the Council of Ministers of       9 October 2019. WRC-19 will continue its work until 22 November 2019.

The purpose of WRC-19 is to discuss key issues related to the assignment of new frequency bands for the future development of the international mobile telecommunications (IMT), including for 5G networks, as well as new frequency bands for satellite communications for supporting the development of 5G networks.

The Conference’s agenda covers a wide range of regulatory issues related to satellite systems, including the use of radio frequency spectrum, opportunities for the harmonized use of radio frequency spectrum for railway radiocommunication systems, intelligent transport systems and wireless access systems.

The decisions adopted by the WRC-19 on the assignment of radio frequency spectrum for 5G in the higher frequency bands are expected to create prerequisites for the development of very high capacity wireless networks and high quality services.
